Конспект урока английского языка в 6 классе

Два президента США

Цели урока.

Обучающая:

  1. Способствовать совершенствованию навыков монологической, диалогической речи, аудирования по теме «США».
  2. Способствовать развитию произносительных навыков.
  3. Способствовать совершенствованию навыков монологической, диалогической речи, аудирования по теме «США».

Развивающая:

  1. Способствовать развитию умений учащихся обобщать полученные знания.
  2. Развивать умения проводить анализ, синтез, сравнения, делать необходимые выводы.
  3. Развивать умение общаться на иностранном языке.
  4. Развивать умение строить высказывания по образцу и самостоятельно
  5. Развивать умение выделять основную мысль в прочитанном тексте

 

Воспитывающая:

  1. Способствовать развитию творческого отношения к учебной деятельности.
  2. Развивать умение работать в парах, группах, самостоятельно.
  3. Познакомить с известными людьми, достигшими успеха благодаря   собственным усилиям.

Комплексные цели урока: обучение познавательной деятельности и общению на английском языке

Ход урока

  1. Организационный момент

а) Приветствие Greeting: Good morning students. I am glad to see you.

б) Речевая зарядка Warming: I’ll give you the chance to sit down if you tell me what’s the English for:

T: Say the tongue-twister. Pay attention to the sounds: [t, v, u:].

Say it as quickly as you can.

Ss (one after another): A tutor who taught on the flute

Tried to teach two young tooters to toot

Said the two to the tutor,

“Is it harder to toot, or

To tutor two tooters to toot?”

T: Let’s listen to some students and choose the best.

 

  1.  Проверка домашнего задания.Checking the homework

T: You were to learn by heart a beautiful poem by the American romantic poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow “The Arrow and the Song”. Recite it by heart; try to do it artistically in a natural manner.

Ss: recite the poem by heart.

T: The poem has a deep, philosophic meaning, would you, please, translate it?

Some students translate the poem.

а) Introducing the aim of the lesson

T: Look at the board and read “today’s quotation”, written there:

“Nothing is impossible to a willing heart”

Let it will be the motto of our lesson, because today you’ll learn a lot about the great people in the history of the great country – we are going to speak about the American presidents. I think at the end of the lesson you’ll prove the words of the quotation.

T: You are to read the first part of the text 21, page 257 to find out the answers to the questions (1st six questions) ex.22, page 259.

б) Phonetic exercises

But before reading, pronounce the proper names from the text еx 20, page 256

Listen to the CD first, and then pronounce one after another.

Ss: one after another pronounce aloud.

в) Scanning reading  Ss: read silently the passage

T: I’ll give you 3 minutes to finish this off. Put your hands up the moment you’ve found all the answers.

  1. Where was George Washington born?

 – He was born in Virginia in a planter’s family.

  1. What things did he learn to do when he was a little boy?

– He learned to ride a horse, to hunt, shoot, sail and swim (to be a soldier and a Virginia gentleman)

  1. What did George Washington do during the Revolutionary War?
  2. At the beginning he was a major in Virginia militia and later he became Commander in Chief of the Colonial Army during the Revolutionary War.
  3. Why did people respect him?

–They respected him for his courage, honesty and wisdom.

  1. What did Washington want to do after the Revolutionary War?

–He wanted to retire and live at Mount Vernon, where he had a house and a big plantation.

  1. When did George Washington become the 1st president of the US?

He became the 1st president of the US on the 30th of April, 1789.

г)  Listerning Comprehension

T: I’d like you to listen to the part of the text, so, please, shut your books, listen to the text and after listening you are to answer the questions: (they are written on the board, read them silently)

  1. Who is the passage about?
  2. In what kind of the family was that person born?
  3. Who encouraged the boy to study?
  4. What kind of books did he like to read?
  5. Did he have books at home?
  6. What kind of person was he when a young man?

(discuss the answers in pairs)

Ss:  1) listen to the text

      2) answer the questions in pairs

      3) answer the questions loudly

Answers:

  1. The passage is about Abraham Lincoln.
  2. Abraham Lincoln was born in the family of poor pioneers in the Middle West.
  3. Abe’s stepmother encouraged the boy to study.
  4. He liked to read different books, such as the Bible, Aesop’s “Fables”…
  5. No, he didn’t, he borrowed books.
  6. He was shy, he had a quiet voice, was a born story-teller.

д) Работа с текстом  Scanning reading

T: I’ll give you two minutes to read the last part of the text (3 paragraphs).

The task is to answer the last 3 questions №10-12 of ex. 22 page 259.

In two minutes: to S1 Would you, please read the 1st question?

S2   answers the question, then reads the 2nd question

S3 answers the question, and then reads the 3d question…

Answers:

  1. His new friend, the lawyer from Illinois.
  2. The Civil War was taking place /was waging.
  3. The civil War ended in 1865.

T: But what happened to the president 5 days later?

Ss:         He was shot at the Ford’s theatre in Washington.

e)Reporting a story (monologue statement) Group work

T: You are to complete the information about the two presidents. Work in two groups. Choose a student to report the information orally to the class. The 1st group will tell us about George Washington and the 2nd group will tell us about Abraham Lincoln. Use the text and ex 23, page 260.

S1 and S2 report the information about the two presidents.

ж) Asking questions  Pair work inside two groups

T: Ask questions to each other. Work in pairs to complete the information about the two presidents but the 1st group now will find the information about Abraham Lincoln and the 2nd group will find the information about George Washington.

You will work with the student sitting next to you but you can use only pageы 261, 262 while your partner can use only pages 264,265. Please, look at your page,  don’t look at your neighbor’s one. Find out missing information.

  1.  Завершение урока   Conclusion.

T: Have we proved the quotation? What kind of people were the two presidents? Did people respect and trust them?

So: “Nothing is impossible to a willing heart”
