The September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks – Interview
The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were defining moments within the history of the United States. These attacks were covered extensively in the media and through other sources; my mother was one of a plethora of individuals that can recall the event on this historic and solemn day. She can recall the various attacks and events that transpired on this day, as well as the very horrific devastation and loss of life that occurred as a result of the acts of terrorism on the United States. This day had very profound effects on the United States and many of the citizens of the United States.
In the interview with my mother, she began by noting that the day of September 11, 2001 appeared to be very calm, the day did not have any significant occurrences prior to the attacks that occurred. After completing the various tasks for the morning of that day, she decided to watch the morning news. However, on the news program there were a series of images of a plane that was colliding into the World Trade center in New York City, as well as other images that depicted the devastation that had occurred. After viewing these images, my mother was very horrified that an attack of this nature would occur; she was also concerned
She was concerned that an attack could possibly occurred in Chicago, as the metropolitan area of Chicago is a very populous area that is similar to the exceptionally populous city of New York.
Furthermore, her concern prompted her to contact my sister who was commuting home due to the fact that she was released from her job early due to possible safety concerns. My mother then states that upon my sister's arrival they began to discuss the events that occurred. From my mother’s recollection of the events it was also evident that both my mother and my sister were in a state of disbelief, as they tried to fathom that an act of this magnitude could occur in the United States. Her thoughts and opinions of places that she considered to be relatively safe changed as well. Due to this event she became more concerned with the war that was occurring in the middle-eastern region and the prospect of more attacks that may be similar to the September 11, 2001 attacks.
My mother was one of many individuals that witnessed the events of the attack through the news media. Once the attacks occurred, it was evident that the date of September 11, 2001 would become a historic and influential day. Through resources, and the events received by others, I am able to comprehend the true significance of the day, and the profound impact that it had on many individuals. Additionally, it is imperative that individuals fully understand the September 11, 2001 attacks and there role in influencing the United States and its citizens.
